Fingerprint fractals

Pen and ink on tracing paper set against a background of teabag paper sewn with invisible thread. Pine frame. 99x39cms.
In these drawings I have examined the fingerprint as a fractal which can be endlessly enlarged. I wanted to explore what would happen when the contours of the fingerprint spilled over grid lines. I found the image appeared in an orderly way out of the apparent chaos of the line, affirming a sense of order beneath seeming disorder. The backing of tea bags sewn together emphasises the grid lines of the drawings and the delicacy and transitory nature of the image.
